HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- A pair of unanswered second half goals by Delaware Valley College proved to be the difference as the Juniata College field hockey squad fell to the Aggies, 3-1, Tuesday afternoon on Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon, Pa.
DVC (7-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the game's eighth minute on a score by Michelle Cernobyl, with an assist to Bethany Pavlik.
Juniata (2-7, 0-0 Landmark) answered with 21:02 remaining in the opening half, with a blast from Meghan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) from just inside the scoring circle for her first collegiate goal. McGlone shot deflected off the back of a DelVal defender, and into the lower right corner of the Aggie cage.
Delaware Valley broke the 1-1 halftime tie just under four minutes into the second half, when Danielle Heyne put a shot past Juniata goalie Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg). Nicole Stefanoni added an unassisted insurance goal for the Aggies with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.
Funk finished the game with three saves over her 70 minutes in the Juniata goal, while Delaware Valley goalie Jackie Deschenes recorded four saves. Juniata outshot the Aggies 10-8, and had a 10-7 advantage on penalty corners.
The Eagles will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to open Landmark Conference play against Moravian College.
