SALEM, Va. -- Juniata College senior Kyle Mazur (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Morris Catholic) won the javelin with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark, leading the men's team to a championship at the Roanoke College Maroon Invitational, Saturday in Salem, Va.

The men finished with 177 points, well ahead of second place Capital University with 156 points.

The Juniata women finished third with 118.50 points, trailing Roanoke College (196.50) and Capital (154).

Mazur's best throw in the javelin was 209-10, 13 feet past his previous personal best, and surpassing the automatic qualifying mark for the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships this May.

Altogether in the men's meet, eight Juniata men scored in the double digits, including five event champions. Four men posted marks that ranked among the top-five all-time for Juniata College.

Senior Patrick Filamor scored in three individual events. He won the 200m dash with a time of 23.64, finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.31, and took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20' 10.75". The 23 points he earned in those three events led the team's scoring output.

Another senior, Tripp Rudolph, won the 1500m race with a time of 4:10.31 and finished fourth in the 800m run with a time of 1:58.76, earning 16 points for the team. He also led off the 4x400m relay team that took fifth with a time of 3:42.50.

Junior Ryan Johnson scored in three of the four throwing events to earn 15 team points. His hammer throw of 136-7 was a personal best by 4' 2" and an improvement on his own school record in that event. It was good enough for second place in the meet. He also took third in the javelin with a toss of 160-8 and eighth in the discus with a throw of 100-4.

Junior Jeremy Boback scored 14 points in two of the throwing events. His mark of 126-11 in the hammer was a 16-5 improvement on his previous personal best and ranks second all-time for Juniata in the event. It was also good enough for third in the meet. His mark of 118-8 in the discus earned him second place. He also added a ninth place finish in the shot put with a heave of 36-7 3/4.

Freshman Ceth Parker and sophomore Steven Schmitt posted the only other individual victories for Juniata. Parker won the 5000m race with a time of 15:56.49 with Schmitt won the 10,000m race with a time of 34:28.84.

Freshman Aaron McCoy also earned the team ten points by finishing fourth in the 110m Hurdles (17.97), fifth in the 400m hurdles (1:03.07), and running a leg of the fifth place 4x400m relay team.

Sophomore Joshua Cavender scored in three of the throwing events. His best mark came in the hammer in which he posted a seven-inch improvement on his personal best with a mark of 111-9 that earned him fifth place. That mark ranks as the fifth best all-time for Juniata. Cavender also took seventh in the shot put (37-1 1/4) and the discus (100-10).

Junior Ryan Baird and freshmen Nikolai Klena and Dustin Drake also posted second place finishesâ?¦Baird in the pole vault (12-11 1/2); Klena in the 1500m (4:12.35); and Drake in the Javelin (182-2).

In the women's meet, junior Laura Rupprecht led the team's scoring efforts as she captured the 1500m race with a time of 5:04.04, finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:29.36, and ran a leg of the 4x400m relay that took third (4:18.30). She earned 19.5 points for the team.

Sophomore Megan McQuillan won the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 13:05.54. That time makes her the fourth ranked steeplechaser all-time for Juniata.

Freshman Kristyn Ginter won the javelin with a throw of 119-5, making her the fifth ranked javelin thrower all-time for Juniata.

Senior Meghan Jones won the 10,000m race with a time of 41:48.77.

Freshman Jessica Koenig won the 5,000m race with a time of 20:01.2.

Other top performances for the Juniata women came freshman Erika Brown and senior Katie Tavenner. Brown finished third in the high jump with a leap of 4-10 1/4. That makes her the fifth ranked all-time for the school in the event. Tavenner finished fourth in the hammer with a throw of 107-7, placing her fifth all-time for Juniata in the event.
