ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Juniata College softball team handed Elizabethtown College its second and third home losses of the season, sweeping the Blue Jays in a doubleheader on Wednesday at The Nest.

Juniata won the first game, 4-2, in eight innings, and edged E-town 5-4 in game two.

Junior Sarah Eckard (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) went 3-for-4 and scored twice for the Eagles, while junior Stacy Nagy (Millerton, Pa./Troy) had a pair of runs batted in.

Senior Tara Carl (Duke Center, Pa./Otto-Eldred) drove in the game-winning run in the top of the eighth with an RBI singles that plated Kelsey Shutt (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin). Shutt was placed on second base to start the eighth inning.

Eagle starter Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) scattered five hits and fanned 11 Blue Jays to earn the win.

In game two, Juniata's four-run outburst in the fifth inning held up for the win. Eckard and Stacy Nagy had base hits to force in runs in the fifth, while Rachel Nagy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and Liz Schmitt (Knoxville, Tenn./H. Frank Carey, N.Y.) each had RBI doubles.

Freshman Pam Heinrichs (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) allowed 10 hits with four strikeouts, but went the distance for the complete game win.

Juniata (17-7) returns to action on Friday, April 10, when it faces the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a Landmark Conference doubleheader in Kings Point, N.Y.
