HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Rebecca Miller Zeek, pastor of the 28th Street Church of the Brethren in Altoona, Pa., has been named to the Juniata College Board of Trustees for a three-year term as church trustee.

Her term will expire in September 2012.

Zeek has been pastor of the Altoona church since 2006. Before becoming an ordained Brethren minister, Zeek had a long career in education. She was a reading specialist in the Hollidaysburg Area School District from 1994 to 2006. She also worked as a first-grade teacher in the Bellwood-Antis School District from 1987 to 1993.

She earned a bachelor's degree from Juniata in 1986 and went on to earn a master's degree in education in 1992 from Penn State University. She completed Training in Ministry requirements through the Brethren Academy and is currently taking courses for her master's of divinity degree from Bethany Theological Seminary.

She has been active at Juniata College and is serving as the chair of the Juniata College-Church Relations Council. She has served on the council from 1994 to 2000 and from 2001 to the present.

Zeek remains active in her community, serving on both the Altoona Area Christian Coalition and the Altoona 6th Ward Area Interfaith Ministries since beginning her pastorate in 2007. She has served as Middle Pennsylvania Church of the Brethren Ministers' Support Coordinator from 2006 to the present. She continues to volunteer on a regular basis in the Hollidaysburg Area School District and has been the producer of the play at Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School for the last two years.

Zeek lives in Duncansville with her husband, Richard. The couple has three children, Jeremiah, Nathan and Abby.
