TOWSON, Md. - The Juniata College field hockey team extended it's winning streak to five games as it opened the Landmark Conference schedule on the road with a dominating 5-1 victory over Goucher College on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa. / East Pennsboro) led the way with two goals as sophomores Shauna Deschenes (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) and Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn. / Ridgefield) added a goal and an assist each.

Deschenes got Juniata (7-2, 1-0) on the board first in the tenth minute as Amrod was credited with the assist. Juniata scored twice more in the first half, both goals coming off the stick of Price. The first was with ten minutes left to go in the half, off a pass by sophomore Kara Buda (Franklin, N.J. / Wallkill Valley). Price than added an unassisted goal with less than two minutes remaining in the first half to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Eagles defense did not allow Goucher (4-5, 0-1) a shot in the first half, as Juniata was able to rattle off 16 opportunities. Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J. / Haddon Heights) is credited with the win in goal for the Eagles as she played the first 35 minutes.

The second half saw two more quick goals by Juniata in less than six minutes to seal the victory. Caitlyn Bowman (Seven Valleys, Pa. / Dallastown) scored on her lone shot of the day four minutes into the second half as freshman Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del. / Concord) had the assist. Less than one minute after that, Amrod finished off the scoring for the Eagles as Deschenes picked up her first assist of the season.

Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) and Dianna Lovins (Clarksville, Md. / River Hill) shared the second half in goal, as Nugent was able to stop three shots, and Lovins did not face a shot.

The Gophers were able to get on the board with 14:18 remaining as Allison Metzger took a pass from Katie Gallagher and beat Nugent and the Eagles defense to end the shut-out bid.

For the game, Juniata out shot the Gophers 23-6 and out cornered them 9-3.

Juniata returns home on September 30 when they take on Frostburg State University in non-conference action on Winton Hill Field at 4 p.m.
