HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Freshman Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) set a new school record while competing at the Western Pennsylvania Championship, hosted by the California University of Pennsylvania, earning the Landmark Conference Women Track Athlete of the Week award in the process.

Competing in a field of primarily Division II opponents, Shaffer sprinted past the field and finished the 100-meter hurdles in front of everybody with a time of 15.90 seconds. That set a new Juniata College record by 0.06 seconds, which was set a year ago by Kelsey Buffenmyer.

Showing off her multiple abilities, she also took first in a field event, the high jump. Shaffer added a second title in the high jump with a clearance of 1.62 meters (5' 3.75"). That mark ranks Shaffer third all-time for Juniata in this event.

The accomplishment is Shaffer's third award of the 2009-10 season, but her first during the outdoor season. She was also named Rookie of the Year for her effort during the indoor season.

Shaffer and the rest of the men's and women's track and field squads will be back in action on April 3, when they travel to the Penn Invitationals in Philadelphia, Pa.
