Huntingdon, PA -- Darrell Alt, a native of Fort Ashby, West Virginia, has been named an assistant coach on the Juniata College football staff according to head coach Kevin Burke. He will serve as the program's special teams and outside linebacker coach, as well as the recruiting coordinator for the Eagles.

"We are very excited to have someone with the recruiting and coaching experience of Darrell Alt join our staff at Juniata," said Burke, who enters his fifth year at the helm on College Hill. "He brings enthusiasm and passion for college football, which will blend nicely with our current staff."

Alt comes to Juniata from Gettysburg College, where he worked the past two seasons as the outside linebacker and special teams coach for the Bullets. This past fall, Gettysburg went 4-6 overall. He was responsible for recruiting efforts in Pennsylvania and he coordinated and implemented the strength-training program for the Gettysburg football squad. He also served as an assistant baseball coach and as an instructor within the Health and Exercise Science Department.

He earned his associate's degree in science from Potomac State College in 1994, before completing his bachelor?s degree in psychology at Frostburg State University. Alt also earned his master?s degree in physical education from Western Maryland College.

He began his coaching career in 1993 as the head junior varsity coach at Frankfort High School. Alt was also the defensive coordinator and was responsible for the entire operation of the junior varsity program. In addition, he served as the defensive and offensive line coach for the varsity unit at Frankfort. Five years later, he became an assistant coach (special teams coordinator/secondary coach) at Potomac State College where he worked from 1998 until he moved onto Gettysburg in 2000.

Juniata finished the 2001 season with a 5-5 overall record and a 4-5 mark in the Middle Atlantic Conference. The Eagles opened the year at 1-3 through four contests, but posted a four-game winning streak during the second half of the season to help get their final record to .500.
