HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- A total team effort led Juniata College field hockey to come out on top 3-2 as Landmark Conference Champions after a neck and neck battle with Catholic University today on Winton Hill Field.

Shauna Deschenes (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) got the Eagle's lead started with an assist by Megan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) 28 minutes in. The Cardinal's Tory Gagliardi responded off an assist by Elizabeth Grumbein just three minutes later to tie up the game in the first half.

At the start of the second half Paula Price (Camp Hill,Pa./East Pennsboro) found the goalmouth on her own in the 43rd minute. Deschenes had her second goal of the day off of a penalty stroke in the 54th minute to increase Juniata's lead 3-1. The Cardinal's responded once more as Tracey Scanlon assisted Mary Beth Leo in the 63rd minute yet Catholic still fell short.

Molly Snyder (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area), Jill McNeish (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) and
Joyce Eveleth (State College, Pa./State College Area) contributed outstanding efforts on defense for the Eagles.

Juniata outshot Catholic, 14-11, and Catholic out-cornered Juniata 12-10.

Juniata goalie Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) made four saves in 70 minutes and allowed Catholic's two goals. Catholic goalie Krystyanna Ramsdell made two saves and allowed one goal in 29 minutes and Allison Dillard finished out the game to make five saves and allow two goals.

Juniata is now automatically qualified into the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship. The opponent and location of their first round match will be announced Monday, Nov. 8 at 9:00 a.m.
