SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Junior Jessica Koenig (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) set a Juniata College record in the 3000m run to highlight the performances of six Juniata College mid-distance runners, all of whom posted top-five all time performances for the college at the Susquehanna Open on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Finishing third in the race, Koenig posted a time of 10:54.47, which eclipsed her previous personal best in the event by 31.14 seconds and broke the previous school record of Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) by 0.94 second.

Freshman Alyssa Grube (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and senior Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) each posted huge personal bests in the 800m race.

Grube improved her personal best by 2.85 seconds as she finished fourth in the race with a time of 2:23.53. That time moved her from third all-time to second all-time on the Juniata list and put her within 0.67 second of Elena Amato's school record of 2:22.86.

McQuillan finished right on Grube's heals in fifth place with a time of 2:23.81. That time was a personal best by a monstrous 3.69 seconds and moved her from fourth to third all-time for Juniata and to within 0.95 second of the school record.

Both Grube and McQuillan also ran legs of the 4x400m relay team that finished fifth, with a season best time of 4:24.14.

Freshman Katrina Woods ran a 7.05 second personal best in the mile race with her time of 5:25.03 as she finished eighth. That time moved her from third to second on the all-time Juniata performance list in the event and it moved her to within 6.32 seconds of Laura Rupprecht's school record in the event. Woods also ran a leg of the 4x800m team that finished fourth with a time of 10:54.25.

Junior Casey Hoffman (Coplay, Pa./Parkland) had the biggest personal best of the day. In the 3000m race, her time of 11:16.43 was a was a huge improvement of 1:07.53 over her previous best in the event. That time earned her fifth place in the race and also moved her into fifth on the all-time list for Juniata in the event.

Sophomore Angie Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) once again posted strong results across several events for the team. She posted a season best time of 8.83 seconds in the 55m hurdles as she took second in the event. She cleared 1.52m (4-11 3/4) in the high jump to also take second there. She took seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 10.04m (32-11 1/4) and fifteenth in the long jump with a mark of 4.73m (15-6 1/4). Finally, Shaffer made her debut in the 55m dash and took 23rd with time of 8.14 seconds.

There were fewer highlights for the Juniata men.

Junior Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) came within 2.20 seconds of breaking Eric Hoover's school record in the 1 mile race. He posted a time of 4:28.95 to take seventh in that race and improve his previous personal best by 5.53 seconds. He moved from fourth all-time to second all-time for the college in that event with his new personal best.

Three other men posted top-ten finishes for Juniata.

Junior Nick Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) took third in the long jump with a mark of 6.48m (21-3 1/4) and tenth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.27m (40-7). In addition, he also took 29th in the 55m dash with a time of 7.02 seconds.

Junior Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) posted a personal best time of 6.75 seconds in the 55m dash to take fifth. He followed that up with a time of 24.28 in the 200m dash to take 23rd and then he took 28th in the long jump with a mark of 5.07m (16-7 3/4).

Sophomore Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) took seventh in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.95m (12-11 1/2). He also took 17th in the weight throw with a toss of 12.68m (41-7 1/2).

Up next for the Juniata squads is the Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday, Feb. 26. This will be the final indoor meet for Juniata this season. In the first three years of the Landmark Indoor Championships, the Juniata teams have finished third every year.
