NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Juniata College softball broke into the win column Wednesday with a pair of victories over Gwynedd Mercy College and Chatham University on day three of the team's spring break trip to North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Juniata opened the day with a 2-1 win over Gwynedd Mercy College.

After allowing one Gwynedd Mercy run in the top of the fourth, Melissa Moffat (Oceanside, Calif./Oceanside) singled home Kelsey Shutt (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) in the sixth to tie the game. Caley McCool (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh, with a bases loaded single to right-center field that scored Nicole Marks (Gardners, Pa./Carisle).

Kelsea Decker (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) fanned 10 Griffin batters while scattering three hits and allowing two walks in the complete game victory.

In game two, Juniata built a seven-run lead over Chatham and hung on for the 7-5 victory.

The Eagles did most of their offensive damage in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on four hits. McCool singled home a pair of runs, while Allison Gerlach (Mesa, Ariz./Marcos de Niza) plated another run on a single and a fourth run crossed on Amanda Gerlach's (Mesa, Ariz./Marcos de Niza) ground out to short.

Juniata tacked on its seventh run in the fifth when Moffat reached on a leadoff single to center, and later scored on a wild pitch.

Mason Kersey (Charles Town, W.Va./St. John's Prep) allowed five runs, all earned, on 10 hits with one strikeout in five innings of work to earn the win. Decker came on in the sixth inning with one runner aboard, and struck out two while scattering two hits to preserve the win and earn the save.

Juniata (2-4) is scheduled to complete its spring break slate of games on Thursday, Mar. 10, when it faces Gwynedd Mercy College and Mount Aloysius College.
