HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College senior first baseman Johnny Martinez (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) added another honor to an already impressive list on Tuesday, when he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region team.

Martinez was a Third Team selection to the All-Region squad, marking the second straight year Juniata has been represented on the All-Region squad. Former standout short stop Andrew Kriss was a Third Team honoree in 2010, while Martinez was named to the 2010 Rawlings/ABCA Regional Gold Glove team.

Martinez, the Landmark's 2011 Player of the Year and a First Team All-Landmark selection, finished this season with a fourth-in-the-Landmark .382 batting average with 42 hits in 110 at bats. His 31 runs scored was good enough for eighth among Landmark leaders, and he led the conference with a .533 on base percentage.

He tallied eight doubles, a triple, and five home runs this season, posting a .609 slugging percentage with his 67 total bases.

The four-year starter posted a .370 career batting average on College Hill, and finished his career ranked among Juniata's all-time leaders in doubles (second with 36), RBI (fifth with 119), and hits (second with 174). His 15 career home runs is tied for sixth among Juniata career leaders.

Martinez was one of only four Landmark Conference selections to the ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic team. Joining him on the squad were Moravian College pitcher Brendan Close and outfielder Mike Zubia, along with University of Scranton first baseman David Giglio.
