HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College Democrats student club is sponsoring a debate between four candidates currently on the ballot for Huntingdon County Commissioner at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24 in Sill Boardroom in the von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

The club is sponsoring a debate between three candidates: Mark Sather, a Republican candidate; Robert Sieber, a Democratic Party candidate; Jeff Thomas, a Democratic Party Candidate; and Scott Walls, a Republican candidate.

After the debate, the candidates will greet the public and answer questions in Pheasant Lounge, which is located right outside of Sill Boardroom on the second floor of the science center.

The debate will be moderated by Deborah Roney, adviser for the Juniata chapter of the American Association of University Women. Roney is an assistant professor of English at Juniata and has been the director of the college's Language in Motion program since 2000.

The candidates' biographical sketches are as follows:

--Mark Sather, 55, is is a 1977 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business administration from Juniata College in 1981. A lifelong resident of Huntingdon County, he started his career as an NCR Financial Systems account manager and currently works as a solutions adviser for United Datacom Networks Inc.

--Scot Walls, a resident of Walker Township, is a 1980 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School. His educational training includes courses at the Huntingdon County Career and Technology Center, Penn State University and The Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center. He works at Garner Lumber Inc. in Marklesburg.

--Robert Sieber, a resident of Shirley Township, earned a bachelor's degree from Shippensburg University. He taught English and social studies for the Mt. Union Area School District for 35 years.

--Jeff Thomas, a graduate of Southern Huntingdon County High School, has served as a county commissioner for the past four years.
