BASEBALL (9-13, 4-8 Commonwealth): April 14 vs. Albright*; April 15 vs. St. Vincent; April 18 at Lebanon Valley*; April 19 vs. Lebanon Valley* (2).

Juniata dropped both their games on the week at the hands of Elizabethtown. The Eagles fell 11-3 and 8-1 in the two games of the twin set. Adrian Huber (Middletown/Middletown) was one of the bright spots for Juniata as he had three hits and three RBI in the two-game set. Troy Beaver (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) had a pair of hits in the second game of the twin bill. Jayme Fye (Philipsburg/Philipsburg) got the loss in the first game as he allowed seven runs, four earned, while striking out three in six innings.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (17-8, 7-7 EIVA Tait: April 19 vs. Princeton (EIVA Quarterfinal).

Juniata earned a victory in the quarterfinals of the Molten Division III Championship by topping Stevens Tech 3-1, but they could not grab their third win of the season against Springfield as they fell in the Molten final by a 3-1 score. Ryan Genova (Reading/Antietam) and Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) were both named to the all-tournament team. Genova had a team-high 38 kills in the two-day event along with 19 digs and 10 blocks. Lukas knocked down 25 kills for the blue and gold while bringing up 25 digs and registering eight blocks. He had 15 kills with a .700 attack percentage in the win over Stevens Tech. Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) distributed 95 assists for the tournament while adding 10 digs and eight blocks. Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) had 15 kills and a team-high 18 blocks, with 12 of those coming against Stevens Tech. Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) was in double figures in kills in both matches, with 12 put-aways on both nights. He also had 10 blocks and 13 digs for the tournament. Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) has 12 kills against Stevens Tech, and 17 blocks in the two games, with 10 of those coming against Springfield.

SOFTBALL (13-2, 3-1 Commonwealth): April 14 vs. Susquehanna* (2); April 17 at Albright* (2); April 18 vs. Widener* (2).

The Eagles had three hits total in a doubleheader against Moravian, but still split the two-game set thanks to a clutch hit and some spectacular pitching. Renae Hobbs (Mount Union/Mount Union) tossed nine scoreless innings and allowed only two hits, and Amber Helsel (Claysburg-Kimmel/Claysburg) broke up a no-hitter with a solo home run in the top of the ninth to give the Eagles a 1-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader. Hobbs is now 4-0 on the season with an ERA of 0.62. She has allowed two earned runs in 29 innings this season. In the second game, Juniata got another solid pitching performance, but couldn't put any runs on the board as they fell 3-0. Lizzie Bartosik tossed seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned, and six hits in the outing. Helsel and Allison D'Ambrosia (State College/Boalsburg) had the only hits in the second game for the blue and gold.

TRACK & FIELD: April 16 Juniata quad-meet; April 19 at Penn State Invitational.

The Eagles continue to compete well the spring, this week it was at the Messiah Invitational where the men finished 11th out of 16 teams, and the women 14th out of 18 squads. On the women's side, Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) won the javelin with a throw that was good enough to provisionally qualify her for the NCAA Championships. Also earning points on the women's side was Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown), who placed fifth in the 100-meter dash, and Rebecca Shoaf (Madison/Madison, N.J.) who came across the line seventh in the 400-meter hurdles. On the men's side, Scott Shacreaw (Blairsville/Black Lick) tallied nine points with a fourth-place toss in the hammer throw, and a fifth-place showing in the javelin. Also earning points for the men were Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York), who placed seventh in the 1,500, Adam Loser (Central York/York) who jumped to fourth-place in the high jump and Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) who finished fourth in the triple jump.

MEN'S TENNIS (3-7, 2-3 Commonwealth): April 15 vs. Susquehanna*; April 16 at Elizabethtown*; April 17 vs. Waynesburg.

Juniata won its second conference match of the season with a 5-2 triumph over Widener this past week. The also dropped contests against Lebanon Valley and Penn State-Altoona. Against Widener, Neil Eicher (Altoona/Altoona), Satoshi Kimura (L.B. Pearson College (CA)/Nasano, Japan), David Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison) and Jack Walfish (Spring-Ford/Royersford) all won their singles contests. Kimura and Scott Noerr (Altoona/Altoona) teamed for a doubles win, as did Eicher and Osman Homurlu (Tarsus American School/Cresson) and Tom Nelson (State College/State College) and Drew Eysenbach (Penns Valley/Centre Hall). Against Lebanon Valley, a singles win from Kimura was the only point the Eagles got. Kimura and Bullock claimed victories on the singles courts against Penn State-Altoona, while Eicher and Bullock earned a win on the doubles courts.
