BASEBALL (20-16, 11-10 Commonwealth): April 28 vs. Frostburg State; May 2-3 at Commonwealth Play-offs#

Juniata stayed hot, winning six out of seven games on the week as they continued their late-season push for the postseason. Juniata swept a three-game set with Susquehanna, along with sweeping a doubleheader against Penn State-Altoona. Their only loss came in a doubleheader split against Albright. On the mound, Juniata got victories from a host of players. Jayme Fye (Philipsburg/Philipsburg) picked up one win as a starter, and one in relief while compiling a 1.32 ERA. The sophomore allowed only three runs, and two earned runs, in 13 2/3 innings. Eric Bridenbaugh (Central/Martinsburg) and Adrian Huber (Middletown/Middletown) both had ERA's under 2.00, although Bridenbaugh earned a win, and Huber was tagged with a hard-luck loss. Eric Albright (Penn Cambria/Ashville), Andrew Michanowicz (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) and Ryan O'Donnell (Lebanon/Lebanon) all picked up wins on the hill for Juniata. Offensively David Saintz (Titusville/Titusville) batted .458 for the week and scored a team-high eight runs. The freshman had two doubles, two triples and 17 total bases for the week. Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) hit .400 for the week while scoring five runs, and Troy Beaver (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) knocked out eight hits, scored seven runs and had a team-leading eight RBI. Matt Garner (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) also had eight RBI on the week for the Eagles.

SOFTBALL (19-6, 8-4 Commonwealth): April 28 at Messiah* (2); May 2-3 at Commonwealth Conference Play-offs.

Juniata won a pair of games on the week, and dropped a pair of games, but it was good enough to earn the Eagles their first postseason berth since 1982. The Eagles split a pair of doubleheaders, topping Lycoming 8-0, and then earning a conference win over Elizabethtown 3-2 in nine innings. Renae Hobbs (Mount Union/Mount Union) claimed both wins in the circle for the Eagles improving her record to 8-1 on the season. The freshman tossed 14 1/3 innings and allowed only two earned runs while striking out five. Lizzi Bartosik (Penn/Granger, In.) surrendered three runs in nine innings in her two appearances, and fanned five batters of her own. Offensively, Amber Helsel (Claysburg-Kimmel/Claysburg) and Amy Gable (Kennard-Dale/Stewarstown) each batted .462 for the week. Helsel had a home run and four RBI and scoring three times, while Gable came across the plate once and notched on RBI. Becky Herr (Hamburg/Hamburg) hammered her third home run of the season as she batted .375 in the four contests. Pam Michael (Baldwin/Pittsburgh) tripled and scored the winning run in Juniata's win over Elizabethtown, in what was her final doubleheader at home.

TRACK & FIELD: May 1-3 at MAC Championships.

Juniata competed at their final meet before the MAC Championships next weekend, when they took on the field at the non-scoring Dickinson Invitational. On the women's side, Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown) led the way by finishing first in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes. Also earning a top finish was Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) who was first in the javelin. Jan Jennings (Pleasant Valley/Saylorsburg) was fourth in the javelin. Jennings was third in the hammer throw, while Betsey Kusniez (Boyertown/Gilbertsville) was second in the event. In another weight event, Debbie Delaney (Franklin/Reisertown, Md.) placed sixth in the shot put. Maria Welch (Jersey Shore/Avis) placed fourth in the long jump, Stephanie Wasylyk (Honesdale/Uniondale) was fifth in the pole vault, Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) and Rebecca Shoaf (Madison/Madison, N.J.) were fifth and sixth respectively in the 400-meter hurdles and Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) placed seventh in the 1,500-meters. On the men's side the Eagles got a first-place finish from Shawn Miller (Altoona/Altoona) in the pole vault, and a second-place showing from Adam Loser (Central York/York) in the high jump. Dusty Lehr (Bermudian Springs/New Oxford) was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles. In the jumps, Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) and John Boyer (Indian Valley/Belleville) were second and third respectively in the triple jump and Gary Ondecko (Northern Cambria) jumped to third place in the long jump. Jason Boyer (Indian Valley/Belleville) rounded out the Eagles' top performances with a seventh-place finish in the javelin.

MEN'S TENNIS (3-9, 2-5 Commonwealth):

With four athletes competing at the MAC Individual Championships, the Eagles saw freshman Neil Eicher (Altoona/Altoona) capture a first-round victory on the singles courts. Eicher topped Rich Tsapp of FDU-Florham 6-2, 6-3 for his first win at the Individual Championships. Also competing on the singles courts was David Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison) who dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Jon Wantling of Messiah. After his first round victory, Eicher found himself matched up against the number-one seeded singles player Jason Toedter of Moravian. Toedter topped Eicher 6-2, 6-2 to end Eicher's run in the tournament. Eicher closed his season with a 6-8 singles record, while Bullock enjoyed a 7-6 singles record in his freshman campaign. The Eagles also had athletes competing on the doubles courts. Satoshi Kimura (L.B. Pearsons College (CA)/Nasano, Japan) and Scott Noerr (Lewistown/Lewistown) dropped a 6-1, 6-2 doubles match against Andy Platt and Zach Jarrett of Lebanon Valley.
