Huntingdon, PA ? Juniata College sophomore Jeff Gehring (Exeter Township/Reading) earned Commonwealth Conference men?s soccer ?Player of the Week? honors for his efforts with the Juniata soccer team.

Gehring led Juniata to their first two wins of the season this past week including a conference win over Lebanon Valley. Gehring scored both goals in Juniata?s 2-0 win over the Dutchmen and had four shots in the match. Earlier in the week, Gehring netted a pair of goals and chipped in an assist in a 9-1 victory over Mt. Aloysius.

Despite missing several early-season games due to injury, Gehring is leading the Juniata attack with six goals in just five games played. He has scored two goals in each of Juniata?s last three outings, while adding an assist. All of his team-leading 13 points have come in Juniata?s last three games. Not coincidentally Juniata is 2-0-1 in those three games, after starting the season 0-4.

Gehring has picked up right where he left in his freshman season when he scored four goals and added three assists. He was second on the Eagles in both goals and assists as a freshman and was third on the team with 11 points. He has already surpassed his goal and point totals from his freshman campaign.

With Gehring leading the offensive charge Juniata had won two straight games through September 15. The Eagles were 2-4-1 up to that date, but more importantly had a record of 1-0 in Commonwealth Conference play. The Eagles believe they are a real threat to capture the team?s first Commonwealth Conference play-off berth in 2003.
