HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Three instrumental performance groups -- the Percussion Ensemble, the Sinfonia String Ensemble and the Jazz Ensemble -- will perform a concert of music uniquely suited to each group?s strengths at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14 in Rosenberger Auditorium in Oller Hall on the Juniata campus.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The Juniata Percussion Ensemble will perform first, opening with ?African Welcome Piece,? by Michael Udow, followed by ?Scherzoid II,? by James L. Moore and ?Malaguena? by Ernesto Lecuona. Dawn Vitko, a senior from Johnstown, Pa. is featured on ?Malaguena.? Members of five local choirs and choral programs will participate in the ?African Welcome Piece.?

The Juniata Sinfonia will perform ?Serenade for Strings in C Major, Op. 48,? By Peter Tchaikovsky. The second selection features the first time in decades that Juniata musicians have played a full-orchestra performance piece, ?Overture in B Flat,? by J.C. Bach.

The Juniata Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of big band, swing and be-bop standards, including Duke Ellington?s ?Satin Doll,? ?C-Jam Blues? and ?In a Mellow Tone,? as well as ?Respect,? by Otis Redding, ?Harlem Nocturne,? By Earle Hagen, ?In The Mood,? by Joe Garland and ?Well You Needn?t,? by Thelonious Monk.
