MEN?S BASKETBALL (3-3, 0-2 Commonwealth): Dec. 9 vs. York.

Juniata dropped their first two conference games of the season as the Eagles fell to Messiah 74-61 and the losing a home conference battle to Widener 84-66. Jeff Lau (West York/Glen Rock) led the Eagles in scoring in both contests as he tossed in 14 points against Messiah and 17 against Widener. Craig Biller (Penn Cambria/Loretto) was also in double figures in both contests as he notched 12 points against Messiah and scored 10 against the Pioneers. Freshman Chris Jasiota (Oil City/Oil City) scored 13 points against Messiah, while freshman Nick Hager (Franklin/Franklin) scored 12 points by hitting 4-of-7 three pointers against Widener. Lau led Juniata with five rebounds, while Greg Ebert (Forbes Road/Waterfall) dished out a team-high five assists against Messiah. Travis Martin (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) led Juniata in rebounds and assists against Widener as he grabbed eight boards and passed out four assists.

WOMEN?S BASKETBALL (2-4, 0-2 Commonwealth): Dec. 19 at Pitt-Greensburg.

Juniata opened their conference season with a pair of set-backs as they fell to Messiah on the road 56-40 and then to Widener 84-63 at home on Saturday. Janine Smeltz (Line Mountain/Herndon) led the Eagles with nine points, while Gretchen Hall (Cocalico/Denver) was tops on the team with five rebounds and three assists against Messiah. Hall led the team with 17 points and a team-high four assists. Kristen Kirk (Newport/Newport) also notched 17 points while grabbing four rebounds. Dana Reist (Manheim Central/Manheim) was also in double figures with 10 points. Jen Uhrich (Palmyra/Palmyra) led the squad with eight rebounds.

WOMEN?S SWIMMING (4-2, 2-2 MAC): Jan. 17 at Widener*.

After weather kept the entire Juniata College swimming team from competing at a meet on Saturday, Kim Allen (Susquehanna Twp./Harrisburg) swam on her own and earned a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational. Allen also topped her own school record as she swam the 200-yards in a time of 2:26.03, besting the previous record of 2:26.15 which she established in 2001. The time was also good enough to provisionally qualify Allen for the NCAA National Championships.
