4/6/04--Granthan, Pa.? Despite claiming three singles victories the Juniata men?s tennis team could not capture its third conference win of the season as the Eagles fell to Messiah College by a 4-3 score in Grantham Tuesday afternoon. Juniata is now 2-3 on the season and 2-2 in conference matches.

Juniata came inches away from claiming the crucial doubles point against the Falcons, but came up just short. Neil Eicher (Altoona/Altoona) and Satoshi Kimura (L.B. Pearson College (CA)/Nasano, Japan) earned a win at the first doubles position by an 8-6 score. The Eagles dropped the second doubles match 8-2 and then Scott Noerr (Lewistown/Lewistown) and Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) fell by the slimmest margin of 9-7 at the third doubles position.

Juniata responded by claiming three wins on the singles courts. Eicher took the number one singles match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Noerr dropped the first set 3-6 at the five singles position, but then rallied with 6-0, 6-3 victories in the final two sets. Long earned a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory at the number six singles spot.

Both Kimura and David Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison) took one set from their opponents but weren?t able to pull out victories.

Juniata will be back in action on Friday when they play at conference foe Albright.
