Albright 5, Juniata 2
4/9/04--Huntingdon, Pa.? Capturing a pair of doubles matches and earning the doubles point was not quite enough for the Juniata College men?s tennis team as the Eagles fell to visiting conference foe Albright by a 5-2 score in Huntingdon Friday afternoon. Juniata is now 2-5 on the year and 2-4 in conference matches. Albright upped its record to 7-6 and 3-1 in the conference.
The match started off on the right foot for the Eagles as they took two of three doubles contest to capture the doubles point. Despite an 8-0 set-back at the first doubles spot, Dave Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison) and Osman Homurlu (Tarsus American School/Adana, Turkey) earned a win at the second doubles position and Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) and Scott Noerr (Lewistown/Lewistown) took the third doubles match to secure the point. Bullock and Homurlu earned a tight 9-8 win by claiming the tie-breaker 8-6. Noerr and Long had an easier time with an 8-4 win at third doubles.
But Juniata?s doubles success did not carry over to the singles courts as the Eagles claimed one singles victory among the six matches. Noerr earned a singles win at the five position with a 6-4, 6-1 straight sets victory. Bullock split the first two sets of his number three singles match?rallying after losing the first set 3-6 by claiming a 6-3 victory in the second. But he dropped the final set 1-6. Each of the other Juniata singles players fell in straight sets.
The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday with a road conference match against Susquehanna.
