In addition to being named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week on Monday, Juniata College freshman Amy Gable (Kennard-Dale/Stewartstown), a right fielder/pitcher on the softball team, was bestowed the honor of Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Southern Hitter of the Week on Wednesday.

Juniata began conference play this past week and Gable took her game up to another level by hitting .667 (10 of 15) in four games. She had a pair of doubles, one RBI and three stolen bases on the week from the Eagle lead-off spot. In addition, Gable pitched the second game of a twin bill at Albright and got the win on Sunday. She went the distance, allowed four earned runs, struck out four and walked just one.

The Eagles began the week with a loss and a tie (game will be replayed) at Susquehanna on Wednesday. In the opener, Gable was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, while in the nightcap, she went 3 for 4, scored twice and had two stolen bases.

At Albright on Sunday, in addition to her win on the mound, she was 1 for 3 in the first game and then went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Overall in the 2001 campaign, she is batting a team-best .375 with 18 hits during 48 at-bats. Gable leads or shares the blue and gold lead in the Eagles camp in hits, at-bats, runs scored (16), doubles (4) and triples (1). She has started all 13 games for Juniata. Off the rubber, Gable is 2-2 with a 3.62 earned-run average. She has thrown 29 innings, given up 15 earned runs and 12 walks and has struck out nine.

Gable has helped the Eagles start the year with a solid 7-7-1 overall mark and a 1-4 record in the Commonwealth. Juniata is in action on Wednesday at Frostburg State for a doubleheader and will then take on visiting Moravian on Saturday for a twinbill at 1:00 p.m.
