Faculty Features
Grace Fala
Professor of Communication
Grace Fala's grandfather, an Italian immigrant from the Abruzzi region, worked as a lamplighter in the streets of Philadelphia, helping people find their way through a place that could be warm, cold, welcoming, alienating and adventurous all in one.
Emil Nagengast
Professor of Politics
The Nagengast kids were named Bill, Steve, Bernie, Don, Chris, Beth and... Emil. Perhaps it was foreordained that the youngest member of the family would grow up with a fascination for all things European and German.
John Matter
Associate Professor of Biology
When your childhood backyard is 125 acres of Missouri woods intersected by streams, meadows, and bordered by a river, it might be pre-ordained that you would grow up to be a biologist. After all, wandering through wildlife habitat can become habit-forming.
