Juniata is a distinctive liberal arts college that justifiably prides itself on the success of its students—success that comes from encouraging students to think and do for themselves. With the help of two advisors, almost half of the students at Juniata design their own major, or "Program of Emphasis."

In addition, almost all students in all disciplines participate in intensive hands-on learning experiences. Educational programs emphasizing experiential milestones such as research, lab work, internships and international study are the norm.
