Gettysburg rallies past Juniata baseball, 13-4

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- A seven-run seventh inning lifted Gettysburg College past Juniata College, 13-4, in baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Kirchhoff Field.
Freshman rightfielder Ian Thorne (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) led Juniata at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort, including a pair of runs batted in a double to left center in the seventh inning. Senior Adam Spadafora (Asbury, N.J./Pennington School) and junior shortstop Andrew Kriss (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) each plated single runs for the Eagles.
Juniata (13-22) trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh. With one out, senior Matt Sullivan (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) got aboard with a single, and scored on a Spadafora double to right field. Senior Kevin Small (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) drew a walk, and scored along with Spadafora on Thorne belt to left center, vaulting Juniata into a 4-2 lead.
However Gettysburg (17-21) put up seven runs in the bottom half of the inning, including three runs on Kevin Langhauser's three-run double to left center.
The Bullets tacked on four more runs in the eighth, including two on Langhauser's single through the left side of the infield. Langhauser finished the day 5-for-5 for Gettysburg, with five RBI and three runs scored.
Juniata's single run in the fourth inning came off Kriss' RBI single to right center. That scored Thorne, who reached earlier in the inning on a single to right field.
Eagle starter Marty Hauck (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits with four walks over six innings of work, and dropped his record to 1-4 with the loss. Chad Kulik (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) came on in the seventh, while Mike McGonigal (Peters Township, Pa./Peters Township) pitched the ninth inning.
Gettysburg reliever Matt Karis entered at the start of the sixth inning and allowed three earned runs on six hits over the final four innings of the game, but still managed to pick up the win. Starter Will Kleva fanned seven Eagles over five complete innings of work, allowing one run on four hits.
Juniata will close out its 2009 season on Thursday, when it hosts Penn State-Altoona in a doubleheader on Langdon-Goodale Field starting at 1:00 p.m.
