Bernard "Fuzzy" Andrews '31

He was captain of three major sports during his career, including baseball and football as a junior and senior. As a first baseman, he was known for his exceptional speed and power on the diamond, and was the leading scorer and captain as a foward for the 1930-31 basketball team. A high-scoring quarterback and captain in football, "Fuzzy" led the 1929 grid squad to a 5-3 record and the school's first winning football mark. That team was the only Juniata football squad between 1920 and 1948 to win four-straight games in a season. Following graduation, he had a breif professional baseball career in the Cardinals organization and later was a successful high school coach and administrator in Western Pennsylvania.

Bill Berrier '60

A four-year letter winner in both sports, and football co-captain as a senior, he was an All-State and Little All-America fullback in football. Bill set several Middle Atlantic Conference records, held six individual school football records, and was named the team's most valuable back three times. On the diamond, he posted a .325 career batting average and went on to sign a minor league contract with the Dodgers - reaching the AAA level. After his playing career ended, Bill stayed with the Dodgers as a minor league manager. He has served the College in a number of administrative roles including athletic director from 1977-95. A head coach in wrestling and baseball and an assistant coach for football during his career at Juniata, Bill was a co-recipient of the Stanford Mickle Award in his senior year.

Barry Drexler '56

A four-year letter winner in both sports, he was an All-State and Little All-America end in football. A team captain as a senior, Barry earned Most Valuable Player honors at the 1956 Tangerine Bowl game after catching nine passes for 164 yards and one touchdown in Juniata's 6-6 tie with Missouri Valley. He remains among the Juniata top 10 in career receiving yards and led the team in that category as a junior and senior. An infielder-outfielder in baseball, Barry hit over .300 as a junior and senior, and earned honorable mention All-State honors in 1955.

Henry "Hank" Eisenhart '44

A four-year letter winner and senior captain in basketball, and a three-year letter winner and starter in baseball and football, Hank went on to pitch professionally with the Cincinnati Redlegs in 1944. As a member of the Juniata basketball team in 1943-44, he was the leading scorer and broke the school record for points in a single season. An assistant baseball coach at Juniata in 1987, he was a well-known interscholastic baseball, basketball, and football official in New Jersey and Pennsylvania from the mid 1940's until the early 1980's.

A four-year letter winner in track and field and captain of the etam as a junior and senior, he set the school broad jump record (23' 3 3/4") in 1923 - a mark that remained unbroken for over 30 years. He was a letter winner and standout on Juniata's first varsity football team in 1920, and scored the first touchdown ever for the Blue and Gold.

Peggy Evans '85

A two-time track and field All-American and Juniata track and field MVP, and the school's first national champion, she won the NCAA Division III triple jump title in 1985 after a fourth place showing in 1984. Peggy was the Middle Atlantic Conference triple jump champion during all four years of her career and added two relay wins and the 200 meter run title in 1983 when she was named the MAC Championship's outstanding women's athlete. A setter for the nationally ranked volleyball team, she earned All-MAC honors as a junior and senior, and was the team MVP in 1984. Peggy was awarded four letters in volleyball, three in track and two in basketball. She also received the Bargerstock Award as the most outstanding female athlete of her graduating class.

Betty Fleck

A student at Juniata in 1928-29, she graduated from the College of William and Mary before returning to Juniata as an assistant director of physical education and director of women's athletics from 1932-43. Betty introduced field hockey to the school and coached the co-ed intercollegiate basketball team from 1932-35. She founded the Women's Athletic Association and was responsible for the success of intramural women's sports during her tenure.

Daniel Geiser '39

Earned 13 letters - four in basketball and three each in basketball, football, and track and field - during his career on College Hill. He was a halfback, punter, and kicker in football; a guard in basketball; and an outfielder in baseball. "Danny" was a basketball captain as a senior and led the Eastern Pennsylvania Baseball League in hitting as a junior. He set the Juniata pole vault record in 1937 and broke his own mark in 1938. He received the Thaddeus Hyatt Cup as a senior in recognition of his "outstanding achievement in football, scholarship, and character.

Jake Handzelek '56

Still the all-time leading scorer in Juniata men's basketball history, he poured in 1,950 career points for a 23.9 points per game average. Jake led the team in scoring during all four years of his career, averaging over 20 points per game in each season. He scored a personal-high of 40 points vs. F&M as a sophomore. Jake was also a four-year member of the baseball team and was among the top pitchers on the squad as a junior.

Alden Holsinger '30

A three-time captain of the track and field team, "Bulldog" was Juniata's top scorer and participated in high hurdles, javelin, discus, high jump, pole vault, shot put, and decathalon. He was a four-time conference record setter and once took four first-place medals at the Central Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Meet. A center in basketball, he was the team captain as a junior and senior, and also a four-year member of the football team.

Chuck Knox '54

A four-time letter winner in football as a tackle, and co-captain of the team as a senior when Juniata posted the first undefeated season in its history, he began his remarkable coaching career as an assistant for Bob Hicks at Juniata in 1954. He became the first coach to win division championships for three different franchises - the Los Angeles Rams, the Buffalo Bills, and the Seattle Seahawks. A head coach in the NFL for 22 seasons, he received the NFL "Coach of the Year" honor four times and coached his teams to 186 regular-season victories

A four-year starter and letter winner in basketball, she earned All-America, Academic All-America, and All-Middle Atlantic Conference honors at center after both her junior and senior seasons. A two-year co-captain and the team MVP in 1980-81, Julie graduated with 31 school records, including over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for her career. She still holds the Juniata single-game (31), season (404) and career (1,130) rebounding marks. As a four-year starter and letter winner in volleyball, Julie earned MVP honors as a sophomore and was a senior captain. She received the Bargerstock Award as the most outstanding female athlete of her graduating class.

An employee of the Huntingdon Daily News for 41 years, he was sports editor for the local newspaper for 37 of those years before retiring in 1989. "Mac" covered both Juniata football appearances - the 1956 Tangerine Bowl and the 1973 Stagg Bowl. He also covered numerous regional and national events, including NCAA Final Four Basketball Championships and Penn State bowl games. "Mac" was a friend and confidante to many Juniata coaches and athletes during five decades of covering sports on College Hill.

A four-year letter winner in both baseball and football, he earned All-MAC honors as a defensive back after his freshman season and at running back as a senior. He was the team's leading rusher in 1972 and a punter/kicker throughout his career. A tri-captain on the 1973 Stagg Bowl team, Mike was the squad's leading scorer and remains in the top five on the Juniata career scoring chart. On the diamond, he posted a .339 batting average during a four-year career. Mike was the recipient of the school's prestigious Stanford Mickle Award winner as a senior.

A four-year letter winner in both baseball and football, he earned All-MAC honors on the gridiron as a junior and a senior. Jeff, who once played quarterback, running back, and defensive back in one game, still holds the record with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown vs. Western Maryland in 1981. He led the 1980 team in total offense and was named the team's most valuable back. The leading hitter in NCAA Division III with a .509 average in 1981, Jeff earned baseball All-AMerica honors that year when he set a school record with 54 hits. He is third on the Juniata career chart with a .392 batting average. Jeff was the recipient of the school's prestigious Stanford Mickle Award as a senior.

Dave Murphy '85

A four-year letter winner in both baseball and football, he is one of only three Juniata players to earn first team All-MAC football honors three times. A tight end/split end, Dave was co-captain as a senior when he was selected as the conference MVP and received AP Little All-America honorable mention. He set seven school receiving records, was the team's most valuable back twice, and signed a pair of one-year free agent contracts with the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a four-year starter in center field, he posted career numbers to place him in the Juniata top 10 for doubles, triples, and home runs. Dave was the recipient of the school's prestigious Stanford Mickle Award as a senior.

Jack E. Oller '23

A four-year baseball player, three year contributor in football and basketball, and a member of the track and field team as a freshman, he was one of the few athletes in the history of the College to earn letters in four sports. He went on to coach basketball and golf at Juniata for several years and was one of seven members of the school's first Athletic Board of Control. A foreign language professor from 1927 to 1956 and a Juniata Trustee prior to his death in 1986, Jack was a co-founder of the Juniata athletic booster organization - now known as the J-Club.

After earning All-State honorable mention as a sophomore quarterback/tailback, he was a first-team All-State selection as a junior and senior. Pat was an honorable mention Litlle All-American for the 1955 season when he led Pennsylvania in total offnese and helped Juniata to a berth in the 1956 Tangerine Bowl. Twice selected as the team's most valuable back, he established numerous rushing, passing, scoring, and total offense records during his playing years and is still in the Juniata top 10 for career TD passes, total offense, and passing yards. As a sprinter, he earned a varsity letter in track and field as a junior. Pat went on to become one of the winningest high school football coaches in Pennsylvania history at Ellwood City and Beaver High Schools.

Bill Smaltz

A former standout player at Penn State, "bull" led Juniata to a 32-17-2 record during seven years as head football coach. In his final year the 1953 squad posted the school's first undefeated campaign (7-0) and started the program on a 23-game winning streak. "The Glory Years - 1953-59" saw Juniata football teams go 50-2-2 with five undefeated seasons. The seeds for that tremendous success were planted by Bill Smaltz. His baseball teams posted six winning seasons during his tenure when he also served as junior varsity basketball coach. He went on to an assistant football coaching position at North Carolina State.

Nancy Zinkham '80

A four-year letter winner and three-time captain in basketball as a guard/forward, she helped Juniata reach the AIAW national quarterfinals in 1979-80 when she received All-Region, honorable mention All-America, and fifth-team Academic All-America recognition. A two-time All-MAC and team MVP, Nancy set numerous school records and her single-game marks for assists (14) and steals (11) still stand. She ranks in the Juniata career top 10 for assists, steals, blocked shots, rebounds, and points, respectively. Also a three-year letter winner in volleyball, she was a captain as a junior and senior.
