Juniata's Coach Hoover qualifies for Summer Biathlon World Championship

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College assistant track and field coach Doug Hoover has qualified for the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Summer Biathlon World Championships as a member of the U.S. national team, which will be held September 22-23 in Oberhof, Germany.
Hoover will be making his fifth trip to the World Championships, after finishing second at the U.S. Biathlon Association Summer Biathlon National Championships in Lake Placid, N.Y., on July 10-12. He previously competed in the world championships in 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2008.
Hoover finished sixth and third in the first two races of the three-race series, and was ranked fourth overall heading into the final race.
In the third and final race, Hoover turned in his best shooting performance of the weekend, hitting 90% of his targets with only two missed targets in one stage. He finished second in the race, trailing only two-time Olympian Duncan Douglas, and moved up to second in the final standings.
Hoover will be joined on the national team by Sam Morse of New York, Danny Fink of West Virginia, and Jason Hettenbaugh of New York.
"I'm real happy with how things went this weekend," said Hoover. "My shooting is very consistent and my running is getting stronger by the week. So, I'm thrilled to have another couple months to keep preparing for worlds."
