Head Coach - John Houck
John Houck has held the position as the Head Softball Coach as Juniata since the 2002 season.
He has a 90-87-1 career record as the head mentor for the softball program, and has presided over some of the most successful seasons in the history of the softball program. The 2003 squad shattered the program record for wins in a season with 19, capping the year with a 19-11 record. The season featured a 15-2 start and a nine-game winning streak. Juniata also earned a spot in the Commonwealth Conference and ECAC postseason. Juniata reached the 19-win mark again in 2004 and again qualified for the Commonwealth Conference postseason.
Houck served as the assistant coach for the Eagle softball team in 2001 and saw Juniata drastically improved from its 2-20 overall record of 2000 to 12-15-1 and the Eagles went 4-10 in Commonwealth Conference play with six of the setbacks coming by two or less runs.
Houck's softball experience extends from playing to coaching. He was tabbed as a member of the United State Army All-Europe softball team while in the service and is currently an ASA softball member. In addition, Houck has coached in the Southern Huntingdon fast-pitch league.
Houck, who is currently a correction officer at the State Correctional Institution of Huntingdon, is a native of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1988 and later attended United States Military Intelligence School as well as the University of Maryland.
From 1988 through 1992, Houck was involved in military intelligence. From that post he moved into his current position with the correctional institution in Huntingdon. He became an assistant coach with the women's tennis team at Juniata in 1999 and also worked as a health and conditioning coach on College Hill in 2000 and 2001.
