Elizabeth Snyder

During the Lille Summer Program in 2006, Elizabeth Snyder happened upon a small art museum outside of the city. She fell in love with its unique approach to exhibiting works and was certain that she wished to do an internship there. As a student of art history, museum studies, and French, Elizabeth was certain that an internship at the Musée des Beaux-Arts would be the perfect way to complete her 2007-2008 academic year in Lille. She contacted the museum and after over a year of correspondence, she began her internship. Due to her previous experience with exhibition design, she assisted in the preparation of “Son of…”: working with the curators choosing which works to include, helping to place the works in the gallery, and mounting and framing works. She also prepared documents for the press and the public, translated texts into English, maintained the database of works for the exhibition, photographed and measured works wherever necessary, and attended meetings for regional museums. Elizabeth even had the opportunity to visit an artist’s studio in preparation for an upcoming exhibition. Her internship at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Tourcoing gave her a chance to observe a number of different museum professions and increased her interest in pursuing a career in the museum field.
