Letter to Prospective Students
Welcome to the Chemistry Department's web pages! If you are reading this, you are probably a junior or senior in high school, wondering whether Juniata is the place for you. I hope the web pages here will help you decide. If there is anything you want to know about Juniata's chemistry department that you cannot find out here, please email me and I will try to help you out.
I wanted to take this opportunity to mention a few aspects of Juniata that I think you will find attractive. First, being interested in chemistry at Juniata is not an unusual thing. Many other schools of our size graduate fewer than 10 chemists a year. At Juniata we expect to graduate more than 20 chemistry and biochemistry students in each of the next several years, and about half of them will go directly into graduate school in one of those fields. There are schools ten times our size with fewer chemistry majors than that. In other words, you will not feel like an outcast at Juniata if you think chemistry is neat!
Second, we strongly encourage our students to combine the study of chemistry with study abroad. It was chemists who founded Juniata's study abroad program, and we have tried to arrange our curriculum to make it as easy as possible for students to study language at the same time they are studying chemistry. We believe that an experience with another culture is invaluable in a person's growth. This is one of the reasons why our exchange program is a true exchange program: when one of our students goes to France or Germany, a student from France or Germany comes here.
Thanks for looking at us. Please keep in touch.
