Curriculum
Students who want to certify in Early Childhood Education (N-3), Elementary Education (K-6) and Special Education (N-12) take a common core of foundation and methods courses.
- A foundations of education course and a field experience
- A child development course and a field experience at the college's Early Childhood Education Center
- An educational technology course
- Two Special Education courses - Introduction to Students with Exceptionalities and Adaptations for Student with Exceptionalities
- Methods courses in mathematics, science, Language Arts and Social Studies
Students who want to certify in Special Education (N-12) take the core courses listed above and Special Education courses.
- Courses in high and low disabilities
- A course in assessment and instruction for Special Education
Students who want to certify in Early Childhood Education (N-3) take the core courses listed above and Special Education courses.
- An early childhood curriculum course
- A course on families and teachers
- Special topics courses in Early Childhood Education
Students who want to certify in one of our 9 secondary content areas (7-12) or three foreign languages (K-12) take the following core of education courses and a number of required courses in their content area and a core of Education courses:
- A foundations of education course and a field experience
- An adolescent development course
- An educational technology course
- Two special Education courses - Introduction to Students with Exceptionalities and Adaptations for Student with Exceptionalities
- A general secondary education methods course
- A methods course in either English and Social Studies or Mathematics and Sciences
Student Teaching
The culmination of our teacher preparation program is a full semester of student teaching.
