Governor's Institute for Early Childhood Educators

The Governor's Institute for Early Childhood Educators was hosted at Juniata College in July (17-22) for the fourth consecutive year. The purpose of the Institute is to provide pre-K to third grade teachers, literacy leaders, intermediate unit staff members, and librarians with an understanding and application of current scientific and action research and to model standards-based practices in early literacy.

Early Childhood Conference

Juniata hosts an annual conference in May for Early Childhood and Early Intervention Educators and Providers who work with children ages birth through eight. The conference is jointly sponsored by the Juniata College Education Department, Juniata Valley Mental Health/Mental Retardation, Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11, Early Intervention Technical Assistance, and the Penn State Cooperative extension of Huntingdon County. The tenth Annual Conference entitled "Together We Can Make a Difference" held on May 17, 2005 provided Professional Development training for participants from surrounding area schools and programs.

Science Olympiad State Final Competition

The Science Olympiad is a national nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education for both teachers and students. One of several ways these goals are accomplished is through competition in district, regional, state and national academic interscholastic tournments. Juniata has hosted the state final tournament for the past 11 years.

Science Olympiad 2004 National Competition

Juniata College has been selected to host the 2004 National Science Olympiad competition. The competition will bring about 3,500 competitors, coaches, parents, and support staff from 108 teams to the Juniata campus. Please check back in the near future as additional information becomes available.
