Newcastle is the 6th largest city in Australia but the 2nd oldest. The beaches are spectacular (the sand from the beaches of Newcastle is shipped to Hawaii to cover their beaches!). The city has many restaurants, cafes, art galleries, shopping centers, theaters, parks, and night clubs. They also have great public transportation but be careful, you don’t get the student price as an international student. Sydney is only about 2.5 hours away by train. It’s like a smaller version of New York City. There is so much to do including museums, the Opera House, the Harbor Bridge Climb, and of course the beaches. There are lots of great restaurants and night life spots. There are also quite a few sports venues where you can check out cricket, National Rugby League, or Australian Rules Football depending on what time of year it is.
