Study Abroad in Biology
Considerations
If students can take courses which will be acceptable to satisfy Biology POE requirements, study abroad provides a valuable perspective of global Biology, and field opportunities that may not be available at Juniata. Junior or Senior years are the best time, but remember that professional school interviews are in usually scheduled during the senior year. Pre-professional students in the health professions should plan on junior year for their program. The Biology Seminar series BI189 and BI289 are required of all Biology POEs, and must be taken at Juniata. They are typically taken in the freshman and sophomore years, so they should not interfere with study abroad. Writing courses in the POE can present a problem. This requirement of the POE should be met with courses offered at Juniata. Otherwise, students are open to take any courses that will help them work towards graduation.
