Juniata's Global Engagement Initiative
Juniata’s mission to empower students for “ethical leadership in the global community” is supported by its excellent record of faculty-driven internationalization. Subscribing to the curriculum integration philosophy that study abroad should fit into a student’s chosen course of study, Juniata infuses global perspectives into the curriculum and across campus, especially through connecting more intentionally with international partners.
Since 2009, the Global Engagement Initiative has functioned as a road map for Juniata’s vibrant and comprehensive intercultural education journey. A collaborative effort between the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Center for International Edcuation, the Initiative aims to prepare students with the skills they need to negotiate the twenty-first century. Articulated by the Global Presidential Task Force during the winter of 2008-09, this cross-campus collaboration responds to the institutional mission through cultivating intercultural competencies. The Initiative operationalizes aspects of Juniata’s 2008 Strategic Plan that aim to foster intercultural learning; it was approved by the President; the Provost; faculty members in International Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, and World Languages and Cultures; and the International Education Committee.
