Payment of Fees

You may select to complete the program for the certificate only (and Act 48 hours) or for the certificate and undergraduate college credit (12 credits). Also, you may choose to complete only the field-based program in Ecuador as an intercultural learning experience (although this will not qualify you for an ESL teaching certificate).

Payment Schedule

In early February, you will be billed for 50% of the total program fees. The remaining fees must be paid by May 5. Participants will purchase airline tickets on their own, but Juniata can recommend a travel agent or provide assistance in making travel arrangements.

Financial Aid

Financial aid may be available to those enrolled in the total program on a credit basis (12 credits) through the federal Stafford student loan program. To determine eligibility for the loan, you must complete a FAFSA form. See further information about the Stafford loan program. Juniata College students are also eligible for a Nyce study abroad scholarship for Latin America.

Travel to Ecuador

You will need a valid passport (be aware of the expiration date) to travel to Ecuador. For U.S. citizens, no visa is required for tourist or business travel to Ecuador of up to 90 days.

The estimated round trip airfare on a major U.S. carrier (Continental, Delta, American Airlines) from a major east coast U.S. city to Quito, Ecuador is approximately $750. Specific immunizations are required to travel to Ecuador and you will be given specific information on health concerns when you are accepted to the program.

Lodging at Juniata

You may stay overnight on the Juniata campus at the Baker Guest House at a charge of $42.40 per room per night. The Guest House offers limited accommodations and a room may be reserved on a first come, first serve basis by calling Sherry Sharum in Conferences and Events at 814-641-3606. Juniata College will bill you directly for Baker House fees. Some of the rooms are quite large and can be shared. Other lodging is available in Huntingdon, PA.

Cancellation Policy

Due to the international location of the field-based program, Juniata must have a minimum number of participants for the program to go forward and reserves the right to cancel the program if enrollment is not sufficient by February 15.

Withdrawal Policy

In the case that an individual must withdraw from the program, the following refund policy will apply:
