Plans for the Fall 2010 ‘75th Anniversary of JC Bands’ Celebration
2010-2011 marks the 75th anniversary of bands at Juniata College, according to the official Juniata history books by Earl Kaylor. All band alumni, including winds, percussion, jazz ensemble, and former marching band and pep band members, including flags/rifles/batons, are invited to join us for this celebration!
Two major events are planned:
- A "75th Anniversary" celebration on campus during Homecoming 2010 (October 1-3, 2010), with opportunities for band alumni to mingle, listen to rehearsals, and (as an option) sit in and play with the wind symphony on their Sunday concert. The official announcement and invitation has been publicized through the annual Homecoming publicity - alumni, check your mailboxes and/or inboxes!! Or, click here:
- In spring 2011 Juniata will for the first time host the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band festival. This festival is the oldest running event of its kind in the United States; Juniata hosts the 64th annual edition of this event in Rosenberger Auditorium, Oller Hall, in the Halbritter Center for the Performning Arts, March 4-6, 2011. The instrumental music department now has an active database of all Juniata band alumni, and further information on the upcoming band alumni gathering will be sent, emailed, and posted online. Please watch this site for updates...and, of course, we hope you will be able to support current Juniatians by attending our concerts! Click here for the JC Music Department concert schedule.
Our initial Planning Meeting, held Fall 2008:
The initial planning meeting for the 75th Anniversary celebration took place during Homecoming 2008, with 12 people in attendance. Issues and ideas regarding both the instrumental music affinity group and the committee were shared. Many great ideas for the bands’ reunion were brought to the table. We toured the current facilities for those who had not seen Swigart and/or Oller Hall in many years. We toured the site of the proposed new music building as well (currently it’s a parking lot!), and looked at the architectural drawings. We hope that the building will become a reality some day!
