Jennifer Shuty

Ms. Shuty's teaching experiences include private lesson instruction and elementary, middle and high school instrumental music education in the Pennsylvania public schools. She is currently the band director at Portage Area High School where she teaches Jr. and Sr. High marching and concert band, jazz band, and coaches various chamber music groups. She is an avid musician in musical pit orchestras, bands, and as a chamber musician. In 2002 she participated in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, placing third in the senior wind division with "A Few Good Reeds." Ms. Shuty has been as soloist with the IUP Wind Ensemble along with the other members of "A Few Good Reeds," and with the IUP Jazz Ensemble. She has recently performed with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, at the 2007 North American Saxophone Alliance Region 8 Conference with the quartet "To the Four," and in the orchestra that featured Frank Sinatra Jr. in Indiana, PA in February of 2007. Ms. Shuty is a member of NEA, PMEA, and Local 41 of AF of M. She received her undergraduate degree in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and completed her Master of Arts degree in saxophone performance from IUP in August 2008.
