POEs (Majors)
The Psychology Department has one designated POE which is Psychology. This POE offers considerable flexibility, requiring students to take three specifice courses-
- Introduction to Psychology
- Statistics for Social Sciences
- Research Methods in Psychology
Also, the students must take four of the following five courses-
- Abnormal Psychology
- Social Psychology
- Biopsychology
- Theories of Development
- Cognitive Psychology
During their senior year students are required to take Capstone in Psychology with a seminar course. Beyond this, the student is free to select courses form the Psychology department and from other departments that best suit their needs and desires in consultation with their psychology department advisor.
Design your own POE
Students also have the option to design their own POE by combining courses with other departments. A few examples of some POEs that have been designed by students in the past are:
- Neuroscience
- Animal Behavior
- Peace Psychology
- Political Psychology
Secondary Emphasis Requirements
- PY 101 Introduction to Psychology
- ND.SS 214 Statistics for Social Sciences (or equivalent)
- 3 other psychology courses, two of which must be at the 300 or 400 level.
