Professor Fisher came to Juniata in 1976 with a B.S. in chemistry from Old Dominion and a Ph.D in biochemistry from Iowa State University. He continued his studies at Virginia Tech as a postdoctoral fellow and later adjunct professor, while also teaching at St. Mary's College of Maryland.
His areas of academic interest include the application of computers to analytical chemistry and environmental science and the design of instrumentation for academic laboratories.
A member of the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he has published articles in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, and the Journal of Chemical Education.
He is the 2002 recipient of the Beachley Distinguished Academic Service Award.
Married to Juniata chemistry professor Ruth E. Reed, he is the Proprietor of Inexpensive Systems, a company which produces laboratory instruments.
