Endowed Professorships

Give - Juniata Scholarship Fund

Juniata has enjoyed a long period where we have been able to attract faculty committed to ideals of community and to engaging students in experiences that complement and enrich their education.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it cost to establish an endowed professorship?
The minimum gifts for endowing professorial positions depend on the kind of position.

In both cases, individuals can state a preference for establishing a professorship in a particular department (biology, English, etc.) or field (science, arts, humanities, etc.), or one awarded at the discretion of the president in consultation with the Office of the Provost. Endowed professorships are usually awarded to individuals for the length of their career at Juniata.

How is the money spent?
Funding made available by endowed professorships provides permanent support for a faculty position at Juniata. In addition, it provides the named professor with a modest additional award stipend that professors very often then use to augment their courses or otherwise help create opportunities for students.

What effect do professorships have?
By providing a permanent source of support for the College's efforts to attract and retain professors, endowments ensure the College can build and sustain a top quality faculty. Juniata's distinct educational program demands flexibility and innovation, and is thus dependent on professors who complement students' creativity and passion in crafting their POEs with their own wide knowledge and professional acumen. Endowments reward and empower those professors who can best respond to student initiative and to innovate with their teaching and research, to the ultimate benefit of all Juniata students.
