Stephanie Frith
Program of Emphasis: Geological Engineering
Hometown: Sanatoga, PA
High School: Pottsgrove High School
Why I chose to attend Juniata: I chose to attend Juniata for many reasons, including its atmosphere. The students, professors, staff, and surrounding community all aid in the friendly atmosphere. I also attended Juniata for the well-known academics and the liberal arts experience of creating well-rounded individuals.
Clubs and Organizations: Vice President of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, the Earth& Environmental Honors Society Secretary of the Society of Physics Students, where I organize meetings, keep notes, and help organize events such as Physics Fun Night and Mall Physics. Andrew Lawson Geologic Society, where I help brainstorm new ideas for informative and fun activities for the group.
Varsity Sports: This will be my fourth and final year playing Softball. Here's a list of all my positions: Freshman year- Catcher Sophomore year- Left Field Junior Year- Second base and some Third base Senior year- we'll find out!
Internship: This summer I was the environmental/engineering intern at Superior Tubing INC located in Collegeville, PA. I helped the Environmental Specialist on-sight with keeping tabs on the Wastewater Treatment Building, the Waste Acid Vault, and the 662 Degreaser. I also helped out with various projects such as updating the PPC plan and the Emergency Evacuation map.
Most Interesting Class: My most interesting class taken this year would have to be Archaeology and Human Prehistory. I find the history of our ancestors to be fascinating and the methods archaeology utilizes to be interesting because of the constant advances in technology. The fact that stone tool technology also involves geology also intrigues me.
Favorite Faculty Member: I'd have to say that Matt Powell has really made a difference in my life, especially this semester. I have a very busy semester with 18 credits, tutoring for a chem course, working on the athletic events staff, and graduate school planning all at once! He's been a great help with figuring things out for graduate school and generally steering me in the right direction.
Honors Received: Sigma Gamma Epsilon
Thank you!
Thank you so much for your generous support. This scholarship has meant that I'm able to stay at this wonderful school for my senior year without worry. Without this financial support I would have struggled to pull together enough money for tuition, stressing me out more than I already am!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Frith
