Program of Emphasis: Environmental Policy
Hometown: Exeter, PA
High School: Wyoming Area High School
Why I chose to attend Juniata: I knew I wanted to be a part of Juniata College once I had visited the campus before I applied. It was the smallest school I had applied to (by a landslide), and also the furthest. Once I left that day I knew that it wouldn't matter if other schools had accepted me because I wanted to go to Juniata. Thankfully I got in, I don't know what I would have done.
Travels Abroad: (I'm writing this from Seville, Spain right now!) Most people would believe that Europe is not very different from North American culture, and I was one of them until recently. For the most part, thanks to globalization, both cultures dress, eat, and interact similarly, right? I've found out this could not be further from the truth about three weeks into my stay. There haven't been any major highlights so far (I'm only about halfway through the semester), but more small occurrences that have caught my eye, such as social interactions and social cues. Almost everything is backwards when compared to our own American culture. The differences show up everywhere, and I'm sure I will never truly understand these spaniards, but every day is an adventure, and that's all anyone can really ask for.
Most Interesting Class: This academic year I haven't taken classes at Juniata, however next semester I am registered for a class that involves studying the environment and the government and how they both affect each other. This is great for me because I am an environmental policy POE, and one day I hope to work for an organization such as the EPA.
Favorite Faculty Member: I honestly can not answer which faculty has had an impact on my life because every professor I have had has been great. My advisors, Professors Pelkey and Thurston-Griswold, have been so helpful with classes and anything else that baffles me, I couldn't ask for more.
Thank you!
To the Class of 1970,
Receiving this scholarship has been the difference between attending a college I adore or attending one that does not suit me at all. To put it bluntly, I would not have been able to attend Juniata without this scholarship, or wouldn't have even considered it despite how much I loved it. Knowing how I feel about having a scholarship means that I know it will be appreciated once I am an alumni and am able to contribute to things such as this.
Sincerely,
Paige Williams
