Program of Emphasis: Theatre Performance
Hometown: Morrisdale, PA
High School: West Branch Area High School
Why I chose to attend Juniata: I chose to attend Juniata because the Theatre Department is unique to my specific desires for my career. As a student, I receive education from a number of teachers from the acting world by way of the Gravity Project. This project is completely exclusive to Juniata so for me other choices weren't as obvious. The atmosphere here on campus is also specific to my desires. There is a certain magic about this place. Something just draws me here and I'm not sure why. I just feel it in my blood. It's the perfect place for my college education. I can't imagine learning at any other campus.
Clubs and Organizations: Awol; member
Most Interesting Class: Performance Lab. This is the class where the Gravity Partners come in to teach. Each partner has their own specific field of theatre that they teach. The fields that I have studied in this class include: skinner releasing, character development, mime, and stage combat. These mini 2-3 week intensives allow me to learn a number of skills from many different perspectives. This class is always the most fun part of my week.
Favorite Faculty Member: My two theatre professors, Neal Utterback and Kate Clarke, have made a huge impact on my life since I moved here a couple of months ago. They have greatly helped me to develop my talent and also who I am as a person. They are there to aid me in my artistic process and if I ever need a good cry they are always there to speak to me. They are the greatest teachers I have ever had and they make fantastic friends as well.
Honors Received: The Juniata Theatre Fellowship Program.
Thank you!
Dear Class of 1988,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous donation to my college education. Without this funding, I would not be able to make my dreams become a reality. The Juniata Theatre Department is the environment in which I wanted to begin cultivating my talent and future in the Acting Business. If you would not have blessed me with your donations, I would not be performing where I truly want to perform. My family would not have been able to financially support my education here. Thanks to you I am able to continue my involvement in what means the most to me: my art. Thank you again for presenting me with this opportunity and chance to continue what I love to do in the place where I want to do it.
With endless gratitude,
Jamison Monella
