Megan Illig
Program of Emphasis: Gender Studies
Hometown: Homer City, PA
High School: Homer Center Jr-Sr High School
Why I chose to attend Juniata: I chose Juniata for several reasons but my Grandmother first brought me to visit in high school because JC is her Alma Mater. I fell in love with the campus and was very impressed with the idea of individualized POEs. It is also a Greek-free campus which I think helps to increase a feeling of community within the campus.
Clubs and Organizations: I currently serve as the Treasurer for the Juniata Branch of AAUW, which is an organization of college students and graduates that promotes gender equality.
Travels Abroad: Last fall I was able to attend a BCA study abroad program in Chennai, India that focused on Social Work. While there I was able to take classes at a local college as well as complete over 200 hours of fieldwork with a local NGO.
Favorite Faculty Member: Lynn Cockett is a fantastic professor. She is there for her students both in and outside of the classroom and genuinely cares about the material that she teaches. I am taking two classes with her this semester and I am truly sad that I waited until my final year at Juniata to take advantage of her knowledge and skill.
Honors Received: I am a member of both the Juniata College Honors Society as well as the History Honors fraternity, Phi Alpha Theta.
Thank you!
Without the support of generous donors to Juniata College, it would be extremely financially difficult for me to pursue my studies. I chose Juniata as my place of undergraduate study for its excellent liberal arts academics and its unique offer of individualized majors. If I did not attend this college I may not be able to study what I love, and would not be able to have a degree that is as specialized. It is for these reasons that I am deeply appreciative of your donation to the Juniata College Scholarship Fund.
Sincerely,
Megan Illig
