Program of Emphasis: Environmental Studies & Human Affairs
Hometown: Wyoming, PA
High School: Wyoming Area High School
Why I chose to attend Juniata: I chose Juniata for its variety of environmental courses, classes in politics and sociology that my previous institution lacked, the ability to individualize my program to suit my academic interests, and its study abroad opportunities.
Clubs and Organizations: Juniata College Democrats - club member Juniata Environmental Coalition - club member
Most Interesting Class: This semester I'm taking The Global Conversation, which involves examining issues regarding climate change, globalization, natural resources, human health, and so much more, and looking at how they are all connected in a global context. While it's often easy to acknowledge the existence of these major conflicts and then go back to the daily routines of our lives, this class has made it more difficult to simply forget or ignore that these problems exist; now more than ever, I find myself thinking about and striving to figure out ways we as individuals and as a society can right our wrongs.
Having the financial support of this scholarship made it possible for me to transfer to Juniata College, which opened up a multitude of doors that were closed at my previous school. Now, I have the chance to study abroad, take more classes in the subjects I'm passionate about, and make connections and positive change through Juniata's clubs and activities. I now have everything I could ask for in a college education.
Thank you for such valuable support,
Class of 2015
