Thank You Letters

Alexandra Bernosky

Program of Emphasis: Russian Language and Culture

Hometown: Jermyn, PA

High School: Lakeland High School

Why I chose to attend Juniata: I chose to attend Juniata because of its size, the impression I received from the faculty I met, and because of its sincerity. I think the combination of Juniata's smaller size and brilliant faculty combines to create that sincerity. What I mean by it is that Juniata is a place that wants me to succeed, grow, and learn.

Clubs and Organizations: Kvasir (member), Russian Club (president), Spanish Club (member), Big Brothers Big Sisters ("Big"); also, work with a partner student to host successful open-mic nights on campus.

Travels Abroad: I studied in St. Petersburg, Russia. I spent one month there, living with a Russian woman with an American housemate. I took two intensive Russian classes and visited many historical and cultural places in the city, such as St. Isaac's Cathedral, Nevsky Prospekt, and Hermitage. We also visited Novgorod, the first Russian city actually in Russia, which is almost 1000 years old.

Most Interesting Class: I love all of my classes. My Interpersonal Communication class with Grace Fala is my favorite, though it doesn't lead by much! I think my admiration for my professor bumps it up to my favorite. This class helps me grow as a person, not just as a student or a worker. It helps me identify and understand how I communicate, but more than that, it helps me understand the wildly varying ways in which others communicate! I am already a stronger communicator because of it, and what I've learned will continue to affect me for the rest of my life. There is always something new to learn about communicating.

Favorite Faculty Member: As mentioned, Grace Fala has impacted me greatly. Grace is a great listener and makes me aware of what makes me unique. There is something validating and secure about being in her presence. No wonder she is so popular! Honestly, I suspect she is a wizard. What I know for sure is that she is also brilliant and a great talker. I won't say speaker-- she doesn't speak or lecture. She talks.
