Program of Emphasis: Individualized

Hometown: Oberlin, OH

High School: Oberlin Senior High School

Why I chose to attend Juniata: I chose to attend Juniata because of its emphasis on hands-on learning, personal academic environment, and its focus on individuality and the journey of each of us through our college careers. I was impressed with the sense of community as soon as I first experienced Juniata.

Clubs and Organizations: I tutor at the Huntingdon Community Center for children in kindergarten through seventh grade. Alongside my fellow tutors, I help students with homework ranging from spelling to math to learning the alphabet. Once homework is done we get to draw, play board games, and play in the gym. It's a work study job but I see it more as an opportunity to gain experience working with children, within the setting of the local community.

Most Interesting Class: I'm really enjoying my Existentialism class with Dr. Wade Roberts. As a psychology, Spanish, and art focused student, I had never had the opportunity to learn about philosophy in a college setting. Existentialism has provided me the chance to learn about existentialism philosophy, analyze it, and interpret it for myself. It's a class which has enabled me to reevaluate the meaning of life and a purposeful future.

Favorite Faculty Member: Sarah May Clarkson has guided me through my first semester at Juniata. I came in as a transfer student, with a unique situation and set of goals. She has worked with me to make those academic goals a reality and pushed me to take control of my POE and future.
