Program of Emphasis: Chemistry
Hometown: Cranberry Township, PA
High School: Seneca Valley Sr High School
Why I chose to attend Juniata: I chose to attend Juniata for all the opportunities I knew it would provide me and for its close-knit sense of community. Juniata is a wonderful place for undergraduate students to not only learn and thrive, but to evolve into the kinds of people that will one day make a difference in the world.
Clubs and Organizations: I am the secretary of the Chemistry Club and am a member of HOSA, Catholic Council, and the ski club.
Internship: This summer I was granted an internship at Duquesne University's Summer Research Program. Over the course of ten weeks, I was a member of the lab of Dr. Ellen Gawalt where I worked to form 4-Nitrobenzoic Acid Self Assembled Monolayers that could create a nitric oxide leaving group. This leaving group would be used to break down the currently untreatable Pseudomonias aruginosa biofilm that forms in the Cystic Fibrosis lung.
Research Participation: I have worked with Dr. Ruth Reed on "The Potato Project." The research completed was done for the pharmaceutical company Medafor, in which we were testing to find a specific property of their product.
I would like to express my most sincere gratitude for the scholarship I have been provided. When looking at colleges, cost is a very large determining factor. I never would have been able to attend Juniata had it not been for my scholarship. Juniata has provided me with so many invaluable experiences that I would not trade for a lifetime. It is due to your support that I have been able to have such a fantastic experience. I know that my Juniata education will help me to accomplish much more in the future as well, so that someday I can help support a new generation of Juniatians. I have truly been blessed.
