Program of Emphasis: Chemistry

Hometown: Port Allegany, PA

High School: Port Allegany Jr-Sr High Sch

Why I chose to attend Juniata: I chose to attend Juniata College because of the high standard of education and the ability to not only have a major in the physical sciences, but also play an intercollegiate sport. The faculty and staff work hard so that student-athletes are able to have a difficult major and play a sport which requires a significant time commitment.

Clubs and Organizations: Juniata College EMS Quick Response Service - Lieutenant, EMT-B Big Brothers, Big Sisters - Vice President

Varsity Sports: Juniata College Football Team - Place Kicker

Internship: Understanding the Profound Genotype in the inhibition of Gamma-Secretase Proteolytic Complex. I performed summer research in the Biochemistry department with Dr. Dries. I was awarded 1 of 12 national research awards to continue research and fund the lab. My research consisted of reading, writing, and analyzing journal articles and finding more efficient ways to perform our specific research.

Most Interesting Class: The most interesting class I have taken this year would be Modernity, Knowledge and the Self. The class takes a look at the progression of modernity and how we can use introspection to evaluate who we are as people. It is interesting because it allows me to get away from all the science classes that are required in my Chemistry POE.

Favorite Faculty Member: Dr. Daniel Dries, my research professor was very helpful in teaching about his research and he peaked my interest in genomics. Although I still plan on attending medical school, the research I performed on mice gave me a better idea of how research and medicine are interrelated.
