Scholarly Shopping: Where to turn when Sodexo won’t suffice?

Let’s face it; with semester in full swing, students sometimes don’t have the as much time to go to the campus eateries. Come exam time, students may be hunkering down and reaching into the dorm room stash. So where is it, locally, that Juniata students bestow their trust in to supply them their dorm room food? Some of our very own share their opinion.

Q: What local store do you choose when purchasing food or dorm room supplies?

Quintin Hess ’12, Princeton, N.J.: “I usually go to Weis because it’s right nearby, but if I need variety I go to Giant. For supplies, I usually just go to the school bookstore because it’s convenient. For stuff not in those categories, I go to Amazon.com.”

John Huffstetler ’11, Bridgewater, Va.: “I go to Weis because I like supporting a more local business, and I like being able to walk there. It’s at least more local than Wal-Mart.”

Sarah Ruggiero ’10, Bangor, Pa.: “I try to get everything I need at Giant because for every $50 you spend, you get 10¢ per gallon off on gas. If there’s anything I can’t get at Giant, I just run to Wal-Mart.”

Julie Cramer ’12, Oriental, Pa.: “I go to Weis because it is close by and I can bike there, rather than drive. It’s more local than Wal-Mart, and very affordable for my college budget. The pharmacy is also very nice. I also go into town to the small shops and thrift stores for clothes and stuff.”
