East Hall’s New Q Factor: Improving the Dorm
Lounges with new paint, carpet, furniture and 52” TVs. Does this sound like a sports bar or every lounge in East Houses? The residential director and assistants are cracking down on the drinking policies while the college is revamping the lounges. RAs and students talk about what they hope these changes will accomplish:
Kyle Brewer ‘12, Oakmont, Pa.:
“I am hoping that the changes made at the East Houses will improve the ‘Q’ Factor. The ‘Q factor’ refers to ‘Quality of Life.’”
Matthew Fernandez ‘12, Blue Bell, Pa.:
“East Houses, for a long time, has been regarded as a the ‘party dorms.’ We want the residents to treat it just like the other residents treat their dorms. The changes are to support a community feel and to symbolize a place that is connected to the campus”
Jennifer Ashcraft ‘13, Bellefonte, Pa.:
“We want to clean up the community by enforcing the rules a little more. We hope to keep our towers and outside the towers clean to make it a happy and fun place to hang out.”
David Robbins ‘13, Mechanicsburg, Pa.:
“I have no expectations. Change won’t happen because they changed the name and put up some new TVs.”
Andrew Masullo ’11, Bellefonte, Pa.:
“I hope it doesn’t smell as bad.”
